71 / Strawberries In December

Hi, Welcome to For F*ture’s Sake! Apologies for the delay in sending this week’s brief edition.

Reading time: 1 minute

“To grow or make some things for myself; what fun, what exhilaration, what liberation from any feelings of utter dependence on organisations!”

- Dr. EE Schumacher

We can do things for ourselves or we can pay others to do them for us.

Over the last hundred years, there’s been an enormous shift away from self-reliance toward dependency. We’ve become utterly dependent on vastly complex systems, that few fully understand, and leave us vulnerable to sudden change.

But what if there’s a breakdown? What if existing systems can’t provide us with all we need?

In a climate crisis, now seems as good a time as any to reconsider the insanity of scale in our 'optimised' economies.

So much infrastructure, energy and resources, so we can eat strawberries in December!

Take care - S
